Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned Brunswick helmet surmounted by a horse (the Roß), flanked by elaborate foliate and scroll ornaments in the Kipper-period style. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design reading F V D B E L C = L, abbreviating the titles of Duke Frederick Ulrich of Brunswick and Lüneburg. The overall composition is characteristic of the debased small coinage struck during the Kipper und Wipper inflationary period.
