| Aanvullende informatie |
Frederick Francis I had ruled Mecklenburg-Schwerin since 1785, and the elevation of the duchy to grand duchy status in 1815 — secured at the Congress of Vienna — prompted a modest recoinage that included this small billon piece. The timing mattered: the new title required updated regal styling across the coinage, however humble the denomination.
Billon at this weight was barely worth its metal, and these petty pieces circulated hard through a predominantly agrarian economy still absorbing the disruptions of the Napoleonic period.
