| 背面描述 | The reverse displays the denomination numeral '3' in a large, prominent typeface at the center upper field, flanked by the curved arc inscription SCHEIDE MÜNZE along the upper periphery, indicating subsidiary or token coinage. Below the numeral, the word PFENNIGE is inscribed in bold capital letters, followed by the date 1840 in a horizontal line beneath. A horizontal rule separates the date from the mint mark 'A' positioned at the very base of the field, denoting the Berlin Mint. |

Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach occupies an outsized place in German cultural history relative to its political weight — Goethe spent most of his adult life at the Weimar court, and Charles Frederick ruled the duchy from 1828 until his death in 1853. The small copper pfennig denominations of this period were minted at Weimar under the conventions of the Dresden Coinage Treaty of 1838, which harmonized weights and values across the Saxon states just two years before this piece was struck.
