| Additional information |
Isla de la Juventud — formerly the Isle of Pines — is a special municipality of Cuba that has issued its own local coinage largely for collector purposes, with no practical circulation use. These issues carry no standing within Cuba's national monetary system and were produced almost entirely for the numismatic export market, a practice common among peripheral Cuban territories and municipal entities from the 1980s onward.
