The Banco Nacional de Cuba turned to Státní Tiskárna Cenin in Prague for much of its paper currency production throughout the Cold War period, a relationship rooted in Cuba's alignment with the Eastern Bloc after 1959. STC was the standard printer for socialist-allied states that lacked domestic intaglio facilities, and Cuban notes from this era share a family resemblance with issues from other Soviet-aligned economies — dense linework, flat color registration, and a slightly stiff hand feel characteristic of Czech-produced currency paper.
The 3-peso denomination has no equivalent in Western monetary tradition but mirrors the Soviet 3-ruble note, a deliberate structural echo of USSR currency architecture.
