Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, occupies the central field. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX FIDEI DEF., with the engraver's initials HP truncating the portrait. The omission of the title IND:IMP distinguishes this third Maundy coinage type, reflecting the King's relinquishment of the title Emperor of India in 1948.
