Beschrijving keerzijde Three vertical assegai spears, a traditional African weapon, are depicted centrally in the field, their shafts converging at the base where the engraver's initials KG (for George Kruger Gray) appear. The denomination 3d is prominently placed at the top between the spearheads, while the date 1947 is split to either side of the central spear in the lower field. The circular legend SOUTHERN RHODESIA runs around the periphery, divided by the spear design, all within a finely executed beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

The switch to copper-nickel for this issue came directly out of postwar silver shortages — Britain and its dependencies had been liquidating silver coinage stocks since the mid-1940s to service war debt, and Southern Rhodesia followed the 1947 UK coinage reform in dropping silver from its smaller denominations. The timing means this is the first year of the copper-nickel type for this denomination, sharing that transition moment with the British threepence itself.
