Reverse description Three vertical assegai spears, centrally positioned and overlapping, dominate the field; the outer two spears flank the central spear, with all three featuring elongated leaf-shaped blades and bound, tapering hafts. The denomination '3d' appears at the top of the field between the spear tips, flanked by the legend 'SOUTHERN' to the left and 'RHODESIA' to the right in bold raised lettering arranged around the periphery. The date '1937' is inscribed in the lower field, with the digits separated by the spear shafts. The engraver's monogram 'KG' (George Kruger Gray) is incused at the base of the design, with a fine milled border encircling the reverse.
