The encircling legend reads GEORGIVS VI REX IMPERATOR, with the inscription in raised Latin lettering against a flat field. Reverse description Central device depicting a Protea cynaroides (King Protea), the national flower of South Africa, shown in full bloom with prominent bracts and foliage, flanked by three diagonal fasces-like bundles of reeds arranged in a triangular composition — one horizontal at top and two diagonal at the sides — symbolising unity. The engraver's initials 'K G' (George Kruger Gray) appear discreetly in the lower field. The denomination '3D.' is inscribed at the bottom, flanked by floral rosette ornaments, while the bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA · date · SUID AFRIKA curves around the upper periphery, separated by mullet stops. The coin is struck within a milled border.
