Additional information

Southern Rhodesia gained the right to issue its own coinage in 1932, following the establishment of responsible government in 1923 — a nine-year lag that reflects how cautiously the Colonial Office managed the transition of fiscal authority to settler administrations. The threepence was among the first four denominations struck for the new series, all produced at the Royal Mint in London.

The .925 silver standard matched contemporaneous British coinage, a deliberate alignment that held until the 1947 debasement in the United Kingdom — after which Southern Rhodesia briefly maintained the higher silver content before eventually following suit.
