Beschrijving voorzijde	Crowned and robed effigy of King George V facing left, rendered in high relief after the portrait by Edgar Bertram MacKennal. The king is depicted wearing the Imperial State Crown and military dress with decorations visible at the collar. The circular Latin legend GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR runs around the periphery, with B.M. appearing as the engraver's initials. A fine milled border frames the design.

Beschrijving keerzijde	The numeral 3, denoting the denomination, is prominently displayed at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath of protea and fern fronds tied at the base with a ribbon bow, a design attributed to George Kruger Gray. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA · ZUID-AFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery in English and Afrikaans respectively, separated by a decorative rosette. The date appears in the lower exergue, flanked by small ornamental stops, with further rosette devices punctuating the outer legend.
