Obverse description Laureate head of King George IV facing left, engraved by Benedetto Pistrucci in a classical Roman style. The sovereign's effigy is rendered with fine detail to the hair, laurel wreath, and facial features. The peripheral legend encircles the bust, separated from the toothed border by a raised rim. Two varieties are known: a small head (KM#685.1, Sp#3818, used in 1822) and a larger head (KM#685.2, Sp#3819, used from 1823 onward).
