| 背面描述 | A full-length profile of a Guernsey cow, facing right, stands upon a grassy ground line in the central field, rendered in fine sculptural relief by engraver Paul Vincze, whose initials 'P.V.' appear to the lower right of the design. The legend 'GUERNSEY' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'THREE PENCE' curves along the lower rim, with the date '1956' inscribed in the exergue between the ground line and the lower legend. |

Guernsey's postwar coinage retained a degree of insularity unusual even among the Channel Islands — the bailiwick maintained its own currency authority and resisted pressure to fully harmonize with UK coinage reforms well into the decimal era. The 1956 threepence sits in the middle of that independent streak, issued just as Britain was beginning the internal debates that would eventually produce decimalization in 1971, a change Guernsey adopted on the same date but on its own terms.
The "thin flan" distinction separates this from an earlier, heavier striking of the same type — a quiet production adjustment with no public announcement.
