Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing a laurel wreath with her hair arranged in an upswept coil, after the effigy modelled by Mary Gillick. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA, notably omitting the customary FIDEI DEFENSOR title. A beaded border frames the entire design.

Reverse description Three upright wheat stalks bound at their bases are displayed in the centre of the field, their ears fanning outward in a sheaf-like arrangement. The four digits of the date are divided by the central stalk, with '19' to the left and the final two digits to the right, flanked by horizontal lines. The legend AUSTRALIA arcs above along the upper rim, while THREE PENCE curves along the lower periphery. A beaded border encircles the reverse.
