Obverse lettering + ELIZABETH II DEI GRA:BRITT:OMN:REGINA F:D:
(Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen of all the Britains Defender of the Faith)
Reverse description A crowned Tudor portcullis with side chains occupies the centre of the reverse, a design historically associated with the Palace of Westminster and used on the threepence denomination. The Imperial Crown appears above the portcullis, while the denomination 'THREE PENCE' is divided on either side of the central device. The engraver's initials 'W G' appear to the left of the portcullis, and the date '1953' is placed in the lower field beneath the design.
