Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing left, with finely engraved hair detail, occupying the central field. The circumferential legend reads EDWARDVS VIII DEI GRA : BRITT : OMN REX, separated from the rim by a continuous inner beaded border. The maker's initials TM appear on the truncation of the bust, attributed to the Tower Mint.

Reverse description The central field features the interlaced Royal Cipher of Edward VIII — comprising the letters E and R with VIII at centre — surmounted by the Imperial Crown. The date 1937 is split to either side of the cipher reading 19 to the left and 37 to the right. The abbreviated legend FID : DEF IND : IMP arcs across the upper field, while the denomination THREEPENCE appears in an arc along the lower rim, all within a beaded border.
