Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of Charles I facing left, with flowing hair and beard, enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The royal effigy, engraved in the refined style of Nicolas Briot, displays the king wearing a crown and lace collar. The surrounding legend reads · CAR · D : G · MAG · BRIT · FR · ET · HIB · R, separated by pellets, between the inner circle and an outer beaded border. A small hole is visible at the top of the coin, just above the legend.
