| Obverse description | King John I enthroned in full regalia within a polylobe or cusped arch, depicted facing, holding sceptre and orb in the manner of a Gothic majestas portrait. The sovereign is shown wearing a crown and royal robes, presented in the hierarchical style characteristic of late medieval Scandinavian hammered gold coinage. The surrounding circular legend is rendered in Gothic uncial lettering identifying the king and the date of issue. |
