Anhalt-Dessau issued this pattern in 1914 to commemorate the silver wedding anniversary of Frederick II and his wife Marie of Baden. Patterns from the smaller German states in the final years before WWI were frequently struck in very limited numbers for court approval and collector presentation — official adoption was never guaranteed, and many were quietly shelved as the war made commemorative programs politically awkward.
Schaaf 24/G1 places this among a small group of documented trial pieces for this issue.
