The Saxon coat of arms appears at the base of the bust, flanked by the commemorative dates 1517 and 1917, marking the 400th anniversary of the Reformation. A beaded inner border frames the central design, outside of which runs the arc legend EIN FESTE BVRG IST VNSER GOTT, a reference to Martin Luther's famous hymn. The name FRIEDRICH appears to the left of the bust and DER WEISE to the right, identifying the depicted personage within the field. |
