Obverse description Utilitarian letterpress Notgeld voucher on cream paper, with the serial number at upper left and the bold denomination figure '3,—' at upper right, below which the issuer's name appears in large italic script. The body text in German sets out the redemption conditions in typeset letterpress, with the denomination spelled out in cursive as 'Drei Mark' at centre, and the place and date 'BOCHUM, den 8. August 1914' at lower left. A circular violet official seal bearing the Bochum city arms is applied at lower left alongside two manuscript signatures, with a diagonal rectangular 'Bezahlt' cancellation stamp in violet ink overlying the lower portion.

Reverse description The reverse is entirely unprinted, consisting of plain cream paper stock; faint show-through of the obverse letterpress text and violet stamps is visible in mirror image through the thin paper, and the note bears fold marks and minor soiling consistent with circulation use.
