Obverse description Full-length effigy of a knight standing to left, head turned to right, clad in ornate armor with a draped mantle and an elaborate crested helmet. A lion-emblazoned shield occupies the foreground, dividing the surrounding Latin legend into two halves. The figure is rendered in high relief in the bold Baroque style typical of northern Italian hammered coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. The legend runs continuously around the periphery, separated by pellet stops.
