Sigismund von Schrattenbach ruled Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, and his tenure is remembered largely through music history — he was Leopold Mozart's employer and the archbishop under whom the young Wolfgang grew up in the Salzburg court. The small silver 3 Kreuzer coinages of his reign were workhorses of local commerce, circulating across the ecclesiastical territory at a time when the prince-archbishops still exercised full temporal authority over their subjects.
