Beschrijving keerzijde Central field displays the Imperial double-headed eagle with spread wings, each head surmounted by a crown, the whole topped by a larger Imperial crown above the two heads. On the eagle's breast is superimposed a round shield bearing the numeral '3', denoting the coin's value of three Kreuzer. The date appears in the lower portion of the field. A Latin circumscription around the periphery names Emperor Matthias I with his titles, separated by pellet stops, all struck in the characteristic hammered technique of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

Solms-Hohensolms was a small Wetterau county whose minting activity in the early seventeenth century reflected the fragmented monetary chaos of the Holy Roman Empire — dozens of petty lords exercising their imperial minting privileges simultaneously, flooding regional markets with small silver. Philip Count of Solms-Hohensolms ruled from 1583 until his death in 1619, and this Kreuzer issue spans the years just before the Thirty Years' War collapsed what little monetary discipline remained in the region.
