The Moravian Estates issued this coin during their brief assertion of fiscal and political independence at the outset of the Bohemian Revolt. Following the Defenestration of Prague in May 1618, the Moravian Estates initially hesitated before joining the rebellion against Habsburg authority in 1619 — and this coinage was among the practical expressions of that defiance, struck at Brünn to fund military commitments to the Protestant cause.
The revolt collapsed at White Mountain in November 1620, ending independent Estates coinage almost immediately. Issues spanning the two-year window are consequently short-lived by design rather than circumstance.
