Additional information

Maria Theresia had been Holy Roman Empress consort for only months when this issue was struck at Hall, the Tyrolean mint operating continuously since the 13th century on the Inn River. Her own claim to the Habsburg hereditary lands had just survived the War of the Austrian Succession — technically concluded by the Treaty of Dresden in December 1745 — though the pragmatic settlement cost her Silesia permanently. The Hall mint was among the first to strike in her name following the reordering of Habsburg coinage policy that accompanied her consolidation of authority.
