3 Kreuzers - Ludwig IV

Liegnitz-Brieg was one of the last Silesian Piast duchies, and Ludwig IV ruled it under increasingly uncomfortable Habsburg suzerainty following the Peace of Westphalia. These small silver kreuzers were struck during a period when the duchy's autonomy was effectively nominal — the Habsburgs had been tightening control over Silesia's Protestant duchies for decades, and Ludwig IV would prove to be the final Piast duke of Brieg. The line died with him in 1675, after which the duchy reverted directly to Habsburg administration.
