Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Leopold I facing right, with long flowing curled wig, armored shoulder visible beneath drapery. The denomination numeral '3' appears to the left of the bust within the field. The encircling Latin legend reads LEOPOLDVS D G R I S A G H BO REX, distributed around the periphery. The portrait is rendered in the late Baroque style typical of Habsburg coinage of this period. A beaded inner border frames the design.

Reverse description Double-headed Imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread, each head crowned, bearing on its breast an ornate shield of the Habsburg arms. The date 1696 is divided across the upper field, flanking the central crown. The mintmaster's initials F-T appear in a cartouche at the base below the eagle's tail. The surrounding Latin legend MONETA NOV ARG TRANSYL identifies the coin as new silver money of Transylvania. A beaded inner border encircles the entire design.
