Additional information

Württemberg-Oels was one of the more obscure Silesian cadet lines of the Württemberg dynasty, holding a small duchy under Habsburg suzerainty while the main Stuttgart line governed the southwest German heartland. Karl Friedrich ruled this pocket territory during the War of the Spanish Succession, when silver supplies and minting priorities across the Holy Roman Empire were under severe strain. That this small-denomination issue was produced across at least three years suggests a genuine local need for petty coinage rather than a prestige emission.
