The Bishopric of Chur occupied an awkward position in 1633 — the Thirty Years' War was grinding through its fifteenth year, and the Graubünden region had become a contested corridor between Habsburg and French interests, suffering repeated occupations by Spanish, Austrian, and French forces throughout the 1620s and 1630s. Bishop Joseph Mohr, who held the see from 1627 to 1635, issued small silver currency during a period when stable coinage of any denomination was genuinely scarce across the region. At 0.7 g, this is among the lightest episcopal issues from the conflict period.
