Additional information

Joseph Mohr served as Prince-Bishop of Chur from 1627 until his death in 1635, governing a mountainous diocese that sat astride critical Alpine transit routes during the Thirty Years' War. The Graubünden region was repeatedly fought over during this period — French, Spanish, and Imperial forces all moved through the passes — creating enough monetary disruption that local ecclesiastical issues like this one filled genuine gaps in circulating coinage rather than serving ceremonial functions.

The HMZ reference places this among a small cluster of Chur episcopal issues from the early seventeenth century, none struck in large volume.
