The circumferential Latin legend WIRTEMB:LAND.MVNZ.621 encircles the shield, identifying this as a Württemberg territorial coinage (Landmünze) with the last three digits of the mint year. The design is executed in the characteristic hammered style of the period, with some weakness in the strike evident across the field. The composition and reduced weight are consistent with the debased small silver issues produced during the inflationary Kipper und Wipper period of 1619–1623. |

John Frederick's reign over Württemberg coincided almost exactly with the opening catastrophe of the Thirty Years' War, and these small silver issues reflect the monetary chaos that followed the Battle of White Mountain in 1620. The period 1621–1622 sits at the height of the Kipper und Wipper crisis — a speculative debasement spiral in which dozens of German states, Württemberg among them, systematically reduced silver content in small-denomination coinage to exploit exchange rate arbitrage between territories. Whether KM#68 represents debased issue or an attempt to hold standard is a question the surviving die evidence does not cleanly resolve.
