Obverse description Displayed eagle facing left, its breast charged with the quartered arms of the House of Hohenzollern, all within a beaded circle. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the design, commencing at 12 o'clock, and reads as an abbreviation for 'Joachim Ernest, by the Grace of God, Margrave of Brandenburg, Duke of Prussia, Burgrave of Nuremberg,' with the date incorporated into the legend. The execution is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage.
