Ferdinand II issued these 3 Kreuzer pieces from the Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora) mint during one of the most financially chaotic periods in Bohemian history. The early years of this issue overlap directly with the aftermath of the 1623 "Long Mint" debasement scandal — the Kipper und Wipper crisis — in which Bohemian mints had systematically debased coinage to fund the Catholic League's military campaigns. The 1624 resumption of silver issues at Kuttenberg was part of a broader monetary stabilization effort across Habsburg lands following that disaster.
Kutná Hora's mining output had been declining for decades by this point, making the mint increasingly dependent on melted and reminted foreign silver rather than freshly extracted domestic ore.
