Obverse description A ram leaping leftward through the city gate, set above three hills, all contained within an inner circle. The municipal arms of Schaffhausen are thus depicted in a bold heraldic style characteristic of 16th-century Swiss civic coinage. A Latin legend runs around the periphery commencing at 12 o'clock, terminating with a two-digit date suffix representing the last two digits of the year of issue.
