Frederick I of Württemberg had been Duke, then Elector, and finally King within the span of a single decade — Napoleon's reorganization of German territories in 1806 elevated him to royal status and simultaneously dissolved the Holy Roman Empire entirely. This coin is a direct product of that political rupture, issued in the first year of the new kingdom. The billon composition reflects chronic silver shortages across Napoleonic-era German states, where subsidiary coinage was routinely debased to keep small denominations circulating.
