Reverse description The crowned imperial orb bearing the value numeral III is superimposed upon the breast of a displayed double-headed imperial eagle, each head adorned with a nimbus (halo). Individual thin rays radiate outward from the plumage, lending a decorative quality to the design. The whole is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin references Emperor Rudolf II: RVD ` II ` D ` G • R ` IM ` S ` AVGVSTI (Rudolph II, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, always Augustus).
