Aanvullende informatie

Charles Theodore had inherited Bavaria in 1777 under deeply contentious circumstances — his succession was opposed by Prussia and nearly triggered a war, settled only by the diplomatically awkward Treaty of Teschen in 1779. By the 1790s, French Revolutionary armies were pressing hard on Bavaria's western borders, and the electorate's finances were under severe strain. The "Landmünze" designation signals these were struck specifically for internal territorial circulation, distinct from the coinage intended for broader trade.

The .333 fineness reflects fiscal pressure, not accident. Bavaria had been quietly debasing its smaller silver denominations across this period.
