正面描述 Armored half-length bust of Archduke Karl II of Habsburg facing right, depicted in three-quarter profile within a beaded or linear inner circle. The denomination numeral '3' appears below the bust, dividing the peripheral Latin legend. The portrait reflects the Renaissance court style typical of Habsburg Inner Austrian coinage of the late sixteenth century.

附加信息

Charles II ruled Inner Austria — Styria, Carinthia, and Carniola — as a separate Habsburg apanage following the 1564 partition that divided Ferdinand I's territories among his three sons. His reign saw relentless pressure from Ottoman incursions along the southeastern frontier, and the cost of maintaining the Military Frontier (Militärgrenze) drained his treasury continuously. Small silver multiples like this kreuzer issue were the workhorses of that war economy.

He died in 1590, leaving Inner Austria to his son Ferdinand — later Emperor Ferdinand II — who would use these same territories as the launchpad for the Counter-Reformation's most aggressive phase.
