附加信息

Charles Ferdinand Vasa held the Bishopric of Breslau from 1625 until his death in 1655, a position made politically awkward by the fact that he was simultaneously a serious candidate for the Polish throne on multiple occasions — most notably in 1632 and again in 1648. A Polish prince of the Vasa dynasty administering a Silesian Catholic bishopric under Habsburg suzerainty while the Thirty Years' War reshaped the surrounding territories made for an unusual issuing authority. This 1654 piece came just one year before his death, placing it among the final emissions of his episcopate.
