Additional information

Charles Eugen assumed control of Württemberg in 1744 at age sixteen, initially under guardianship, and spent the following decades building one of the most extravagant courts in the Holy Roman Empire — funded largely by aggressive taxation and the sale of subjects as mercenary soldiers to foreign powers. The 3 Kreuzer issues of his early reign predate the worst of his fiscal depredations, struck when the duchy's silver coinage was still reasonably sound.
