Additional information

Bernhard II inherited a duchy whose finances had been strained for decades by Napoleonic-era requisitions and post-war debt restructuring. The 3 Kreuzer denomination served the lowest tier of daily commerce in the Thuringian states, and Saxe-Meiningen's issues of this period are notably scarce in surviving collections — the duchy's small population meant limited mintage runs, and billon of this fineness rarely survived long in circulation before being culled or melted.
