Obverse description Armored bust of Archduke Ferdinand facing right, wearing a crown and elaborately draped armor with ruff collar, set within a beaded inner circle. The denomination numeral '3' appears in the lower field beneath the bust. The surrounding legend reads FERDINAND D G ARCHID AVST, interrupted by the portrait. The portrait is rendered in the characteristic late Renaissance hammered style of the Inner Austrian mints.

Reverse description Quartered heraldic shield surmounted by an ornate imperial crown, the dexter half bearing the rampant lion of Carinthia and the sinister half displaying the saltire cross of Carniola or similar Inner Austrian territorial arms. The date appears above the shield, flanked by the legend. The circular legend reads ETC CARIN THI ZC, abbreviated references to Ferdinand's multiple territorial titles. The design is bold and deeply struck, consistent with Klagenfurt Mint production of the early seventeenth century.
