Aanvullende informatie

Anselm Franz von Ingelheim served as Archbishop-Elector of Mainz from 1679 until his death in 1695, a tenure shaped almost entirely by the catastrophic pressures of Louis XIV's wars on the Rhine. Mainz itself had been occupied by French forces in 1688 during the Nine Years' War, and the archbishopric's finances never fully recovered. Memorial issues struck at the death of a prince-bishop were a established convention in the ecclesiastical states of the Holy Roman Empire, serving the dual function of marking succession and affirming the minting rights of the see.

KM#215 is specific to the death issue, distinct from the regular kreuzers of his reign.
