Wallenstein's Duchy of Friedland was an anomaly — a private fief carved out of Bohemia by imperial grant in 1625 as payment for his military services to Ferdinand II, giving him the extraordinary right to mint his own coinage. The 3 Kreuzer issues of 1630–1634 fall within the final years of his rule, a period of mounting political tension that ended with his assassination at Eger in February 1634 on Ferdinand's orders.
KM#51 is among the more frequently encountered Friedland types, but the duchy's minting operation at Jičín was short-lived by design — Wallenstein's coinage rights died with him.
