This note was issued by a gas and chemical manufacturing company in Székesfehérvár during the acute coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in late 1918. With the new Hungarian state unable to supply adequate small-denomination coinage, industrial firms, municipalities, and cooperatives across the country printed their own emergency paper — szükségpénz — to pay wages and enable transactions among their workers. The Légszeszgyár és Vegyiművek Rt. was one of dozens of such corporate issuers, though its notes are among the scarcer examples from Fejér County.
