| 表面の説明 | Central field occupied by the elaborate cursive royal monogram of Landgrave William VIII of Hesse-Cassel, composed of interlaced letters in a flowing calligraphic style. The monogram is surmounted by a princely electoral crown rendered in relief above the cipher. No peripheral legend is present; the design relies entirely on the crowned monogram as the identifying device. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century German petty coinage, where the ruler's cipher served as the principal obverse type. |

William VIII ruled Hesse-Cassel during the Seven Years' War, and 1758 placed him squarely in one of its most destructive theaters — French forces occupied Kassel itself that year, and the landgraviate's finances were under severe strain. Small copper issues like this one kept petty commerce moving in a region being fought over by the major powers. William died in February 1760 without seeing the conflict resolved.
