Reverse description A standing draped female figure, personifying the Netherlands or Utrecht, occupies the center of the field in high relief. She holds a hat-topped staff (the liberty pole and hat, symbol of freedom) aloft in her raised right hand, while her left arm rests upon a decorative column or altar. Her classical robes fall in naturalistic folds to her feet. The circular Latin legend surrounds the figure within a beaded border, divided by the figure's staff and the column on either side.
