Reverse description Standing figure of the Maid of Freedom (Libertas) shown in classical drapery, her right arm leaning upon a column on which rests an open Bible, and her left hand holding upright a tall spear topped with a Phrygian liberty cap. The allegorical figure is rendered in the neoclassical manner characteristic of Dutch Republican coinage. A two-line Latin legend is divided across the upper and lower fields, with the date appearing at the end of the lower line. The overall composition conveys the ideological foundations of the Dutch Republic: religious authority and civic liberty.
