3 Gulden

Holland struck this denomination during a period when the province's financial machinery was under extraordinary strain — the Franco-Dutch War had ended in 1678 leaving the Republic burdened with debt, and provincial mints were under pressure to produce large-denomination silver to service obligations and maintain trade credit. The 3 Gulden occupied an awkward position in the Dutch monetary hierarchy, too heavy for routine commerce but useful for settling accounts between merchants and the public treasury.

The Dordrecht mint was the primary producer for Holland's coinage during this run. Relatively few examples survived in collectible condition, as the high silver content made them attractive for melting when exchange rates shifted.
